The Rise, Fall ...and Evolution of the Lone Nut

To succeed - one must venture forth to be outstanding alone, knowing the company of a crowd may not necessarily indicate success.

What happens when the leadership role is successful? The crowd takes over. Thus, to be a great leader, one must continue to forge new trails and seek new inspiration - ever innovating and recreating - daring to be different - to continue learning and growing and standing apart from the crowd.

By the time the crowd joins in - the novelty and nuance are gone, the meaning often homogenized, the lesson assimilated. But the trail has been blazed wide enough to allow successful passage for all who wish to follow and for those who so desire - to find a new fork to explore.

The narrator is Derek Sivers, Founder of CD Baby, now working on new projects to help musicians. Blog.
